Favour Stud

Favour Stud spans approximately 300 hectares and is deep-rooted with natural draining water. Our paddocks area placed on nutrient rich soil which is extensively regarded as one of the most fertile source of lucerne (alfalfa hay) in the country. That said, with more than 50 acres of pasture under irrigation the horses are well catered for.

We offer horse owners boarding services for their thoroughbred broodmares, weanlings and yearlings on a permanent and seasonal basis. Our paddocks are of the highest quality which are situated on natural lime stone rich soil which is excellent for young thoroughbred foals and broodmares.

Horse training programs are developed and implemented to suite the needs of each individual thoroughbred horse and all horses are individually assessed on their improvement and natural ability.

The Stud offers race horse owners an alternative than to purchase their own quality and proven broodmare and all the other breeding requirements by offering a lease broodmare breeding option.

We have a team of people who are dedicated and passionate for the race horse industry, and Favour Stud strives towards “ Quality and not Quantity “

We gladly receive guests on the premises, and they can be assured of a warm welcome.

Favour Stud Farm is a full service combined training facility, offering exceptionally large roomy horse stables, insulated barns with hot water wash racks and tack rooms. Oversized foaling stalls are available for pregnant mares. We offer 3(three) working arenas, including lighted dressage and jumping arenas.

We have extended our facilities in 2009, with an additional 60(sixty) hectares of grazing which includes stabling, all of this to increase our facilities capacity to house boarding mares and horses in and out of training and resting.

We have recently completed our function barn which can host events for entertainment and equestrian shows. Our stallion barn is now also completed with ample stallion paddocks, including our clinic for the examination of all horses which houses our digital scanning equipment. The scanner makes provision for off-site submission of digital images to owners and veterinarians.

Pre Training

Pre-training prepares a horse both mentally and physically, developing basic ground work from which horses are able to reach their full potential. Programmes are developed to suite the needs of each individual horse and its owner and they are individually assessed on their improvement and natural ability. Young horses are professionally schooled starting with long reigning to ensure forward movement before being introduced to a rider. The basic pre-training programme is designed to build base fitness and tendon, ligament and muscle strength. Trainers then develop bone strength, both anaerobic and aerobic energy pathways with a short, sharp, fast training programme.

Race horses all need time out and require rest periods during injury or after the end of their racing career (much like a human athlete) to enhance their performance and rejuvenate them.
Spelling gives your horses an opportunity to socialize, revive and relax, both mentally and physically.

Sales preparation

We prepare yearlings and ready to run horses for all national and regional sales. Well trained staff accompany the horses to the sales and present these horses in the sales ring.
