SANDOWN OFFER FOUR SMART LOTS AT CAPE SALE
7 February 2018

James and Joy Armitage’s Sandown Stud will be represented by four high class yearlings at the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale.

First of the Sandown draft on offer is lot 4, a colt by champion and successful sire Elusive Fort. This colt, a half-brother to 2 winners, is from the outstanding Best In Show family, responsible for champions the world over, including Redoute’s Choice, El Gran Senor, Aldebaran, Spinning World and G1 winning local sire Pathfork.

Dual G1 winner, and proven G1 sire, Black Minnaloushe is the sire of a filly (Lot 16) whose four time winning dam is a half-sister to Sandown bred Derby winner Tribal Dance (whose sire, like Black Minnaloushe, is by a son of Storm Cat).

Sandown’s successful resident sire Ashaawes, whose stock include the remarkable Dubai campaigner Sanshaawes as well as this season’s very smart filly Aurelia Cotta, is the sire of a filly (Lot 34) out of outstanding Zimbabwean campaigner Bold Bidder-herself a sister in blood to G3 Lebelo Sprint winner Gold Site.

Leading first crop sire What A Winter, sire of recent big race winners Agent Of Fortune and Dutch Philip,  has had yearlings fetch up to R1.5 million in 2018. The champion is responsible for Lot 88, a filly whose dam is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winning sire Pounced. This filly’s third dam is an Irish St Leger winning half-sister to French Derby winners Assert and Bikala.

Sandown Stud have bred some exceptional racehorses over the years, headed by Equus Champion French Navy. The latter, whose wins include both the G1 Daily News 2000 and G1 SA Classic, has earned more than R5 million in prize money, and has won or placed in eight G1 races.

Other high class racehorses bred by Sandown include stakes winners Reim, Tribal Dance, Royal Badge, Priceless Jewel and Anglet, as well as recent winners Aurelia Cotta, Desert Lark, Glamorous Life, and So Enchanting.
