Varsfontein Stud, perennially among South Africa’s leading breeders, are enjoying another memorable season. The farm are responsible for one of the country’s leading three-year-olds this season in the form of Surcharge (by resident sire Gimmethegreenlight), while Varsfontein Stud’s promising young stallion Master Of My Fate has made the perfect start to his stud career with two eye catching early winners.

Varsfontein Stud, whose recent Cape Sale graduates include such graded stakes winners as Doosra, Final Judgement, Green Pepper and Hack Green (Surcharge himself being a vendor buy back from the 2016 Cape Sale), will be offering four high-class fillies, all by Varsfontein based stallions, at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale this month.

First on offer is Me Time (Lot 26), a daughter of Varsfontein’s outstanding resident sire Gimmethegreenlight. This filly’s first two dams were both high class two-year-olds, with Me Time’s granddam being a G1 placed own sister to Equus Champion and G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship winner Rock Opera. The latter is dam of Dubai standout performer Heavy Metal –winner of the 2018 G2 Maktoum Challenge R1 by 4.5 lengths over multiple G1 winner Thunder Snow. 
This is also the family of G1 winning sprinter Gulf Storm.

Next into the ring is a filly by prominent young first crop sire Master Of My Fate called Duchess Of Malfi (Lot43). A half-sister to four winners, she is out of National Assembly’s multiple G1 winning daughter Duchess Daba, with the latter being an own sister to G1 Computaform Sprint second Chief Editor.

Master Of My Fate is also responsible for Lady Of Shalott (Lot 69) –a half-sister to eight winners, headed by six time stakes winner Admiral’s Daughter.  This filly’s three time winning dam is a half-sister to outstanding international G1 winning full sisters Irridescence and Perfect Promise. The latter has made her mark at stud, and is responsible for KZN sire Redoute’s Promise and smart Australian stakes horses Hard Promise and More Energy.

Former Champion First Crop sire Gimmethegreenlight is the sire of Gimme Gimme Gimme (Lot 65). This filly is out of a stakes placed daughter of world leading broodmare sire Royal Academy who is a hree parts sister to Brazilian G1 winner and sire Desejado Thunder.
Royal Academy is broodmare sire of 111 stakes winners, headed by hugely influential champion sire Fastnet Rock.
