Varsfontein Stud’s promising young stallion Master Of My Fate was represented by a third first crop winner on Wednesday when his daughter Master Keys made a winning debut at Scottsville.

Trained by Nathan Kotzen, the Nothemba Mlonzi bred filly made a massive first impression, as she stormed home under Champion Apprentice Lyle Hewitson to post a 1.75 length debut win in a juvenile plate over 1200m.

Out of the Tiger Ridge mare On A Wing, Master Keys was a R100 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
She looks a really smart sort in the making, and is another fine advert for her promising young sire Master Of My Fate.

The filly is a first winner for Nothemba Mlonzi, who consigned Master Keys under Mwetwood Stud last year.

Wednesday was a day of mixed fortunes for Master Of My Fate, however, with the latter’s highly regarded son Mastagambit was scratched after refusing to load in the first race.

Now South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by winners, Master Of My Fate’s previous winners were debut winner Twist Of Fate and Lucky Dancer.

A son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart, Master Of My Fate was a top class racehorse whose six wins, from eight starts, included the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap.

His numerous high class relatives include unbeaten G3 Flamboyant Stakes winner Hashtagyolo and G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winning sire Pluck. The latter made headlines on Sunday when his daughter Life On The Wire won the G3 Vamos Stakes at Launceston. Life On The Wire was winning her fifth race in a row.

Pluck has now been represented by graded stakes winners Aspect, Life On The Wire and Mongolian Wolf.

Master Of My Fate has 25 impressive yearlings on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in April.

Among his exciting prospects for the sale are a half-sister to G1 performer Kilcoy Castle (Lot 33), a colt out of Snowdance’s stakes winning sister Victorian Secret (Lot 67), a filly out of Fillies Championship runner up Highly Decorated (Lot 165),  a ¾ brother to G1 Champions Cup winner Master Plan (Lot 230) and a half-brother to G2 Charity Mile winner Bezanova (Lot 344).
