FIFTH WINNER FOR MASTER OF MY FATE
26 March 2018

Varsfontein Stud’s hot young stallion Master Of My Fate registered his fifth first crop winner on Sunday when his son Goliath Heron romped home at Greyville.

Jockey Sean Veale barely had to ask his mount a serious question, with Goliath Heron sauntering home to win a maiden juvenile plate over 1200m by four lengths, going away.
Trained, like his sire, by Dennis Drier, Goliath Heron had been third in a barrier trial previously and he confirmed the merit of that outing with an impressive victory on Sunday.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Goliath Heron was a R150 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
The colt, who races for Messrs Buhr, LW Evered-Hall, TG Evered-Hall, P Govender, Dr Naidoo and Mrs Drier, was produced by the winning Silvano mare Water Bird –a full-sister to Bauhinia Handicap vixen Animated.
His sire Master Of My Fate, himself a R3 000 000 buy from the 2011 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale,  is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by both earnings and winners.
Winner of six of his eight starts, including both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap, Master Of My Fate’s previous winners include Lucky Dancer, Twist Of Fate and eye catching debut winner Master Keys.
The handsome bay also had a smart update to his pedigree when his close relative Ghaalla (a R5 000 000 yearling buy) made a winning debut over 1160m for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and trainer Mike de Kock.
A daughter of Var, Ghaalla is out of the winning Captain Al mare Fidelity –a half-sister to Master Of My Fate.
A son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart, Master Of My Fate has 25 lots on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The sire’s NYS draft includes a half-sister to G1 2yo Kilcoy Castle (Lot33), a colt out of a stakes winning sister to current sensation Snowdance (Lot 67), a ¾ brother to G1 Champions Cup hero Master Plan (Lot 230) and a filly out of a eight time stakes winning daughter of champion sire Silvano (Lot 307).
