Mauritzfontein, once again, will be offering a superb draft of yearlings at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The Kimberley Farm, whose past National Sales graduates include the likes of July winning champion Marinaresco, will be offering 28 (two as agent) high quality yearlings at this year’s National Sale.
Sires represented in the draft include such local standouts as Captain Al, Dynasty, Querari, Silvano, and Var, while successful resident sire Ideal World has four in the draft.

Young sires Flower Alley and Soft Falling Rain are also represented by first local yearlings in the Mauritzfontein draft.

Captain Cherry (Lot 113) is bound to be popular, as this colt is a son of deceased champion sire Captain Al and Equus Champion, and Triple Tiara winner, Cherry On The Top.

Outstanding sire Dynasty has four in the draft including Fortune (Lot 65) –a half-brother to short-lived G3 winner Zen Arcade, and Spero Optima (Lot 202). The latter is the first foal of G2 KRA Fillies Guineas winner Maybe Yes.

Champion sire Silvano is responsible for a colt (Lot 20) whose second dam won the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, while proven international sire Oratorio (recently represented by his 50th stakes winner) has a filly (Lot 85) whose dam is the G1 Golden Slipper winner All Afire.

Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain has four lots in the draft including a half-sister to Champion Juvenile Cup winner Kimberley Star (Lot 80), and a colt out ofFort Wood’s G3 Yellowwood Hcp runner up Erin (Lot 147).

Var, last season’s Champion Sire Of 2YOs, is represented in the Mauritzfontein draft by three yearlings. Among them is a filly out of a Silvano sired stakes winning sister to the dam of promising 2yo Goliath Heron (Lot 89) and a colt out of Fort Wood’s G3 Fillies Mile winner Close The Gap (Lot 120), with the latter bred on the same cross as G1 winning sprinter Contador.

Ideal World, sire of champions Hermoso Mundo and Smart Call, has four smart lots here. They include a full-brother to G1 performer Persian Rug (Lot 4), a ¾ sister to Met winner Smart Call (Lot 232), and a filly out of a ½ sister to G2 winning filly Winterinthewoods (Lot 432).

G1 winner Byword, who stands alongside Ideal World, has three yearlings on offer –including a half-brother to smart performers Fear Not and Free State (Lot 455), while G1 Travers Stakes winner Flower Alley’s son Whitcomb (Lot 114) is out of a full-sister to champion and Triple Tiara winner Cherry On The Top.

Former top-class racemare Jet Trail, who ran third in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas, is represented in the draft by a colt by proven G1 sire Count Dubois (Lot 443).

Other interesting lots in this powerful draft include a Twice Over filly from the wonderful Denise’s Joy family (Lot 107), a Querari filly from the family of Horse Chestnut (Lot 321), and an Elusive Fort half-brother to smart stakes performer Supercede as well as the promising filly Talitha Borealis (Lot 291).
