PLENTY TO LIKE IN THE SLADES KZN SALE DRAFT!
22 June 2018

John and Liz Slade will be offering six well bred yearlings at the 2018 KNZ Yearling Sale next month.
This draft, the first KZN draft for the Slades since they relocated to the Karoo, includes yearlings by such popular stallions as Querari, Vercingetorix, Elusive Fort and Wylie Hall.

Sarafina (Lot 26) is a filly from the first crop of Equus Champion and G1 Jebel Hatta winner Vercingetorix. A half-sister to a winner, Sarafina is out of a Galileo ½ sister to G2 filly Dijlla and is from the family of champion racemare Althea as well as hugely successful stallions Arch and Green Desert –to name but two.

Prominent sire Querari, sire of standouts Querari Falcon, Monks Hood and Pinnacle Peak-to name a few, has two in the Slades’ draft. First is African Sunrise (Lot 90), a colt whose Fort Wood sired dam is a sister in blood to champions Horse Chestnut and Monyela. Querari is also responsible for La Bomba (Lot 221) –a very close relative of impressive debut winner La Lucia. This filly, inbred to legendary German sire Surumu and the great mare Ballade, is out of a daughter of a mare who is an own sister to high class Cape galloper Los Colmos and this is the same family as German champion, and Silvano sire, Lomitas.

Wylie Hall, a multiple G1 winner and first past the post in the 2014 G1 Vodacom Durban July, is represented by Wily Lass (Lot 266), a filly whose dam is a half-sister to graded stakes winners Royal I Q and Mentor.
Other lots of interest in the Slade draft include a Greys Inn filly (Lot 274), by the name of Nevertheless and an Elusive Fort colt (Lot 275) called Pop Icon.

Cleverly bred, Nevertheless is a direct descendant of the important mare Sweet Life –fourth dam of July winning champion Greys Inn himself, while Pop Icon (a grandson of Fort Wood) is from the same family as Horse Of The Year and four time G1 winner Legislate (himself a grandson of Fort Wood).

The KZN Yearling Sale will be held at the Sibaya Entertainment World on July 5th and 6th and the catalogue for the sale can be viewed at www.bsa.co.za
