Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud will be offering 12 yearlings, six as agent, at this week’s KZN Yearling Sale, and quality abounds in this draft.

Boland will be offering the only yearling (Lot 93) by deceased champion sire Captain Al on the sale, and this filly is a definite must-see for all serious buyers.
Not only does she share her sire with such filly standouts as Snowdance, Carry On Alice, All Is Secret and July contender Fiorealla, but this filly is out of a Rich Man’s Gold half-sister to Met winner Martial Eagle and dual Algoa Cup victor Nebula. She is also bred on very similar lines to the Captain Al sired Protea Stakes winner Redcarpet Captain.

Var is another top stallion represented in the Boland draft, with the reigning Champion Sire of 2YOs responsible for Quatro Five Six (Lot 68). A half-brother to a winner, this colt received a big update to his pedigree when close relative Romany Prince won Saturday’s KZN Breeders Million Mile on Saturday. This is also the family of multiple G1 winner Gypsy’s Warning and talented Camellia Stakes victress Surabi –dam of Var’s smart son So Var.

Multiple champion, and current Leading Second Crop Sire, What A Winter  has a three-parts sister (Lot 27) to Listed East Cape Guineas second What A Player on sale, while Dynasty’s triple G1 winning son Jackson is represented by a colt (Lot 117) who is out of the Captain Al sired Kenilworth Fillies Nursery runner up Captain’s Lullaby, from a top international family.

The farm sold a Vercingetorix colt for R2.2 million at this year’s National Sale, and Boland Stud will be offering a pair of colts by that Equus Champion at this week’s sale.  One (Lot 92) is out of a winning half-sister to G1 winning sprinter O Caesour, while the other Vercingetorix colt on offer is Justinian (Lot 25) –who was produced by a winning daughter of SA Fillies Nursery winner Secret To Success.

Redoute’s Choice’s high class son Wylie Hall has three yearlings from his eagerly awaited first crop in this draft, including a colt closely related to former high class KZN Sale graduate Al Mariachi (Lot 43), and a filly from the family of Red Ray, Rudra and Set Afire (Lot 129).

Other exciting lots in this impressive draft includes a Duke Of Marmalade filly (Lot 186) out of a sister to SA Fillies Classic winner Cover Look, a Seventh Rock colt (Lot 21) from the family of Horse Of The Year Irish Flame, and a colt (Lot 208) by G1 winner Potala Palace out of a winning sister to high class local and Singapore stakes winner Thundering Jet.

The 2018 KZN Yearling Sale will take place at the Sibaya Entertainment this Thursday and Friday, with trading due to commence at 12:00 each day.
