BIRCH BROS SEEKING MORE SUCCESS AT 2YO SALE
20 July 2018

Legendary Karoo breeders, the Birch Bros, will be hoping to continue their great year in 2018 when they bring a small, but select draft to August’s National Two Year Old Sale in Germiston.
Not only have Birch Bros bred thoroughbreds been shining on the racetrack, but the Birch Bros have regularly been in the headlines at various auctions this past year.

The farm sold a Captain Al colt to Shadwell South Africa at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale for R2 600 000 and also produced the sales topping Ideal World colt, sold to Louis Goosen for R500 000 at the recently held KZN Yearling Sale.

Meanwhile, the Birch Bros bred runners this season include star filly Inverroche, Post Merchants victor Sniper Shot and KZN Yearling Sale Million winner Givinitsum –to name but three!

Colin Birch will bring a quality quartet of two-year-olds to next month’s sale, with his draft including lots by such stallions as hugely successful Ideal World, as well as the Equus Champions Captain Of All, Jay Peg and Vercingetorix.

Four time G1 winner and proven sire Jay Peg is represented in this draft by a colt (Lot 10) whose Bernstein sired dam is an own sister to a stakes winner in Argentina and this is the same family as top French 2yo Sky Commander.

Dubai G1 winner Vercingetorix, never beaten in South Africa, is represented by a half-brother (Lot 202) to 4 winners, whose four time winning Encosta De Lago sired dam is a half-sister to a stakes winner in Australia and this is the family of such noted G1 winners as Naaqoos, Sir John Hawkwood and the globetrotting champion Pilsudski.

Birch Bros have enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of Ideal World, and that Kingmambo son is represented here by Inan (Lot 255). This filly is a half-sister to none other than Givinitsum, and her dam, Fine Hope, ran second in the G1 SA Fillies Sprint. This is a real star filly female line, with notable members including such standout fillies as Consensual, Just Sensual and In Camera.

Captain Al sired sprint champion Captain Of All has a colt (Lot 427) whose Var sired dam is a half-sister to G2 winner Paterfamilias and the G3 placed five time winner La Patineuse. His second dam, who won six, is by Badger Land, whose daughters have enjoyed plenty of success when mated to Captain Al.
