DRAKENSTEIN STUD OFFER SEVEN AT NATIONAL 2YO SALE
27 July 2018

One of the Cape’s premier stud farms, Drakenstein Stud, will be offering seven high quality juveniles (three as agent) at August’s National Two Year Old Sale.

The farm’s numerous top class graduates include this season’s outstanding, record breaking filly Oh Susanna, whose wins included the 2018 G1 Sun Met.

Excitingly, Drakenstein’s National Two Year Old Sale draft includes a colt by Newsells Park Stud’s outstanding young stallion, and British champion Nathaniel. A son of Galileo, the dual G1 winning Nathaniel’s very first crop to race produced Cartier Horse Of The Year Enable, and Nathaniel is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young sires currently standing in Britain today.

Nathaniel’s sole offering at the sale is the aptly named Rain In England (Lot 384), a flashy grey colt whose winning dam is a half-sister to two graded/group winners, notably Equus Champion and July dead-heater Dancer’s Daughter. Dancer’s Daughter, like the colt on sale, was sired by a Sadler’s Wells line stallion –making Rain In England very closely related indeed to that five time G1 winner.

Another potential standout in this draft is Barberton Silver (Lot 164), a colt by multiple champion sire Silvano. This classically bred colt, whose second dam is a half-sister to French Oaks winner Bright Sky, is a half-brother to 3 good winners, including unbeaten Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona.

Resident sire, and Cartier Champion, Duke Of Marmalade has two in the draft –Dice The Bullet (Lot 317) is a filly whose dam is a half-sister to high class sprinter Captain Harry, while Citrusdal (Lot 335) is a half-brother to high class stakes winner Silver Bluff from the family of champions Bluffing, Tecla Bluff and Circle Of Life.

Fellow Drakenstein resident and boom young stallion What A Winter is the sire of Joyful Winter (Lot 326), a filly out of a Jallad sired half-sister to G2 filly Rebel To The Fore, while successful sire Philanthropist’s pair in this draft includes Quest For Good (Lot 71) –a half-brother to smart G3 performer Arniston whose dam is a Rainbow Quest half-sister to champion and Irish St Leger Strategic Choice, and Ashanti (Lot 155). The latter is a daughter of Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Arria (by Antonius Pius), and this is the same family as Breeders’ Cup Mile runner up Antonius Pius and this season’s star Cape 2yo Clouds Unfold.
