BLUE BLOODS HIGHLIGHT MAURITZFONTEIN DRAFT
6 August 2018

Mauritzfontein will be offering an exceptional draft of 16 (plus four as agent) at the National Two Year Old Sale this year.
The farm’s draft include lots by such top class and exciting sires as Silvano, Flower Alley, Ideal World, Duke Of Marmalade, Elusive Fort and What A Winter.
Imperial Ruby (Lot 27) is a colt by multiple champion sire Silvano out of a Sadler’s Wells daughter of Irish champion and G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Necklace. This is the same family as the Sadler’s Wells G1 winners Kayf Tara and Opera House.

Soldiers Song (Lot 312) is another smart sort by Silvano-with this colt being a three-parts brother to Equus Champion, G1 Jebel Hatta hero and popular young stallion Vercingetorix.

The latter, whose first yearlings made up to R2 200 000, is represented by Glory Days (Lot 225) a half-sister to the smart winners Fah Fee and Hero Quest, while Flower Alley colt Filburt (Lot 188) is out of the G3 Horse Chestnut mare Cashew Nut and is, as thus, a half-brother to 3 smart winners notably the highly rated Kingston Passage.

Former Equus Champion Escoleta Fitz, whose ten career wins included both the G1 Garden Province and Paddock Stakes, has made her mark at stud as the dam of Equus Champion Hermoso Mundo (recently second in the eLan Gold Cup) and the stakes placed Eugenes. The daughter of Fitzcarraldo is represented here by a colt by Mauritzfontein’s G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winning resident stallion Byword.

Mauritzfontein’s hugely successful Kingmambo sire Ideal World has four in the Mauritzfontein draft headed by a filly (Lot 33) –whose granddam won the Cape Fillies Guineas, a half-brother (Lot 309) to recent Golden Slipper/Pretty Polly Stakes winner Celtic Sea, and a filly (Lot 108) from the family of Australian standouts Dracula, Wandjina and Complacent.

Other potential standout lots in this draft include the Elusive Fort half-brother (Lot 85) to stakes performers Supercede and Talitha Borealis, Twice Over half-brother (Lot 114) to G1 performer Goliath Heron, the Duke Of Marmalade filly (Lot 294) from the family of multiple South African Champion Sire Western Winter, and the What A Winter filly (Lot 407) whose granddam is Cape Derby winning Equus Champion Dog Wood.

The 2018 National Two Year Old Sale will take place later this month on August 16th and 17th.
