VALUE FOR MONEY TO BE FOUND IN SOUTHFORD DRAFT
13 August 2018

David Southey’s Southford Stud, a long-time supporter of the sale, will once again be represented by a large draft at the National Two Year Old Sale this week.
Southford will be offering ten high quality two-year-olds at the auction, and they are bound to unveil yet more value for money buys.

Former Leading First Crop sire Lateral, the sire of unbeaten KZN Yearling Sale Million hero Givinitsum, is responsible for no fewer than six lots in the Southford draft, including Dunara (Lot 32). This filly is a half-sister to five winners and is out of a winning sister to speedy G3 filly Ladyboro.

Bucket List (Lot 132) is a Lateral filly out of the stakes placed six time winner Wishing Star, while the Lateral colt Eighteen Holes (Lot 257) is a half-brother to three winners and the dam of multiple Kenyan classic winner Happy Times (bred on similar lines to Eighteen Holes).

Straight (Lot 301) is a smart looking Lateral colt out of G2 Ipi Tombe Stakes third Ice Lily, while another Lateral two-year-old to catch the eye is Gatwick (Lot 360). The latter is out of a mare who won three, with this colt’s other notable relatives including such graded stakes winners as Caughtintheslips and Doosra. This is also the family of last season’s G1 filly Green Top.

Last of the Laterals in this draft is Stormy Moon (Lot 447) –a well bred colt, whose three time winning Silvano sired dam is from the same family as Equus Champions Greys Inn and the recently retired Smart Call.

G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes hero Byword is the sire of First Lady (Lot 130) a filly from the family of high class fillies Schiffer, My Kazzie and Wise Dame, while Equus Champion Russian Sage is the sire of Wind Rose (Lot 95) –a filly from the family of G1 winners Main Man and My Magic.

Oasis Dream sired July Cup second Main Aim has two in this draft –a filly (Lot 170) out of a mare who won five up to 1600m, and a colt (Lot 379) out of a daughter of G2 performer Ice Lily –from the same family as SA Guineas hero State Control.
