Dr Ian Heyns, who was represented by three runners in the 2018 Vodacom Durban July including the Oaks winning Secret Potion, will be offering a 13 strong draft at the Cape Yearling Sale next month.

Equus Champion Elusive Fort (whose offspring include the above mentioned Secret Potion) has two in Ian’s draft –an own brother (Lot 85) to a multiple winner whose dam is a half-sister to G2 winner Park Lane, and a colt (Lot 168) out of a Redoute’s Choice half-sister to ten time stakes winner Kenconcarne.

Another G1 winner and proven G1 sire doubly represented in this draft is Flower Alley, whose son I’ll Have Another won the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Flower Alley’s son Star Of Anise (Lot 19) is from the family of numerous top class performers notably high class international performers Sweet Sanette and Janoobi, while Flower Alley colt Khal Drogo (Lot 82) is out of a five time winning daughter of G3 winner Kefaah’s Daughter.

Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade, another sire to have left G1 winners overseas, is the sire of Lord Kelpie (Lot 89) whose four time winning dam is a ½ sister to stakes winner Admiral’s Daughter, while Duke Of Marmalade’s stable mate and four time G1 winner What A Winter, whose daughter Clouds Unfold won the recent G1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes, has a filly (Lot 23) from the same female line as G1 winners Al Nitak, Shoe Express and The Sheik.

Silvano sired champion and current leading first crop sire Vercingetorix’s son Higher Purpose (Lot 93) is bred on very similar lines to the Silvano sired G1 SA Derby winner Seal (also bred by Dr Heyns).

Deceased champion Soft Falling Rain has two here –his daughter End Of The Earth (Lot 50) is from the same E family as star fillies Escoleta Fitz, Ecurie and Empress Club, while his colt out of Qin Wei (Lot127) hails from the same family as legendary champion and Triple Crown winner Horse Chestnut.

Other appealing lots in this draft include the Master Of My Fate filly Gift Of Peace (Lot 87), a half-sister to three winners including the very smart Hard To Play, the Twice Over daughter Rewind And Replay (Lot 148) whose stakes placed dam won six up to 1200 metres, and the Captain Of All filly Leader Of The Pack (Lot 171) whose Fort Wood sired dam is a sister in blood to outstanding filly Cover Look (dam of British G3 winner Shipmaster).
