Hermanus farm, the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, will be offering a large draft of 22 yearlings at next month’s Cape Yearling Sale.

Hemel ‘N Aarde’s big consignment include yearlings by such champions as Captain Of All, Elusive Fort, Jay Peg and What A Winter, and will also be offering one of the very first yearlings sired by Galileo’s superbly bred son Flying The Flag.

The latter, a full-brother to G1 winners Magical and Rhododendron, is represented in the draft by a filly (Lot 164) whose winning dam is a granddaughter of G1 winner Helenita –whose progeny include star fillies Little Ballerina and Trojan Belle.
Increasingly successful sire Elusive Fort has two colts in the draft –including a colt (Lot 56) who hails from the same family as Elusive Fort’s champion Fort Wood, and a colt (Lot 122) whose winning dam is a ½ sister to short-lived G1 SA Classic second Mister Cricket.

Resident sire, and proven sire of graded winners, Jay Peg has no fewer than six yearlings in the Hemel ‘N Aarde draft. They include a colt (Lot 57) out of a full-sister to G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Stratos, a colt (Lot 65) from the family of world-class sprinter Shea Shea, a colt (Lot 144) whose dam is a stakes placed daughter of leading sire Dynasty, and a colt (Lot 153) whose granddam won the G1 Garden Province Stakes.

Four time G1 winner and red-hot sire What A Winter has a trio in this draft –a filly (Lot 146) whose relatives include the G1 winning fillies Shadow Dancing and Thunder Dance, a colt (Lot 147) from the immediate family of triple Horse Of The Year Pocket Power, and a filly (Lot 169) is a winning daughter of multiple champion sire Silvano.

Another Equus Champion Sprinter represented in the Hemel ‘N Aarde draft is Captain Of All. The latter, who was recently represented by an impressive first crop winner, is responsible for a filly (Lot 84) whose numerous high class relatives include outstanding sires Cape Cross and Iffraaj, and classic winning fillies Alydaress, Russian Rhythm and Shadayid –to name but a few.

Other stallions represented in this large draft include Danzig sire Alado (whose progeny include G2 Selangor Cup winner Rocket Countdown), the G1 Dewhurst Stakes runner up Fencing Master, and deceased Storm Cat son Where’s That Tiger.
