QUALITY ABOUNDS IN DRAKENSTEINS NATIONAL DRAFT
29 March 2019

The Simondium based Drakenstein Stud has a truly exceptional draft on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Drakenstein are set to be offering 21 high class yearlings (seven as agent) at this year’s National Sale, with their draft including lots by such outstanding stallions as Captain Al, Dynasty, Trippi and Var, as well as yearlings by their very exciting resident sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura.

The latter’s son White Fang (Lot 38) is the first of the draft up for sale, with this colt having been produced by a winning Trippi half-sister to G3 Prix du Cap winner Croc Valley. The four time G1 winning Futura, whose first yearlings have already made up to R1 200 000, is also represented in this draft by Lucy Gray (Lot 97) –a filly whose stakes winning dam Ha Lucy is a daughter of Drakenstein’s champion sire Trippi and the G1 winning Equus Champion Bold Ellinore.

Futura’s sadly deceased sire Dynasty is also doubly represented, with that former champion’s pair headed by Kim Soo (Lot 98) –a truly regally bred daughter of Dubawi’s multiple G1 winner Happy Archer.
Lion’s Head (Lot 198) is a colt by Dynasty whose stakes placed dam, a ½ to G1 winner Roxanne, is from the immediate family of the Dynasty sired Horse Of The Year Legislate.

Another deceased champion sire represented in the draft is Captain Al, whose progeny include nearly 100 stakes winners! Captain Al colt Giacomo Puccini (Lot 165) is a colt out of the G3 winning Trippi mare One Fine Day from the same family as champions Glorious Song, Singspiel and Devil’s Bag and outstanding sires Saint Ballado and Rahy. Royal Flush (Lot237), another by Captain Al, is a colt whose stakes placed dam is a full-sister to Winter Derby winner, and Dubai scorer, Liquid Mercury.

Jet Dark (Lot 159) is a colt by champion sire Trippi who is a ¾ brother to G1 Mercury Sprint runner up Night Trip, while Var colt Don’t Touch Me (Lot 66) is out of a half-sister to champion Jeppe’s Reef and dual Algoa Cup winner Disco Al.

Drakenstein’s resident Cartier Champion and successful sire Duke Of Marmalade has four in the draft including a filly (Lot132) out of G2 winning millionaire Louvre, while fellow Drakenstein resident Philanthropist has two –including a colt (Lot 49) out of a G3 winning half-sister to unbeaten star and outstanding sire Candy Ride.

Other interesting lots in the Drakenstein include a Visionaire colt (Lot 79) whose stakes placed dam is a full-sister to the dam of Equus Champion Lady In Black, Global View colt (Lot 121) out of the stakes placed La Poppet, and a daughter (Lot 430) of European champion and increasingly successful sire Twice Over and Captain Al sired G3 performer Leeway, whose relatives include champions El Gran Senor and Try My Best.
