Varsfontein Stud have enjoyed striking success at the National Sale the past two years, with the farm responsible for the sales topping yearling in both 2017 and 2018.

The long time leading vendors will once again be looking to top proceedings when they consign more than 30 high quality yearlings (five as agent) at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale next week.
Varsfontein will be offering buyers the chance to acquire yearlings by such standout sires as Captain Al, Dynasty, Silvano, Var and What A Winter, as well as by Varsfontein’s own red hot resident sires Gimmethegreenlight and Master Of My Fate.

Sadly deceased champion sire Captain Al has three well bred lots in this draft –Captain’s Flirt (Lot 44) is a three-parts sister to the graded stakes winning fillies Fragrant Al and Captain’s Flame, Erik The Red (Lot 61) is a colt out of G1 Majorca Stakes winner Covenant, and Vasco Da Gama (Lot 115) is a full-brother to multiple G3 winner Captain Splendid and out of a stakes winning Fort Wood half-sister to Master Of My Fate.

Dynasty, another deceased top sire represented in the Varsfontein draft, is the sire of a filly (Lot 52) whose dam is a half-sister to the Oaks winning dam of Equus Champion Cherry On The Top, while multiple champion sire Silvano is the sire of a colt (Lot 141) whose dam is a Smart Strike half-sister to Maine Chance Farms’ multiple G1 winning sire Erupt.

The increasingly successful Gimmethegreenlight has seven in this consignment –including a filly (Lot 60) whose dam is a half-sister to champion Rebel King, a filly (Lot 129) out of the speedy stakes winner Little Genie, a filly (Lot 151) out of a stakes placed granddaughter of Storm Cat, and a filly (Lot 503) from the same female line as Danehill, Machiavellian and Northern Dancer.

Gimmethegreenlight’s exciting stable mate Master Of My Fate, himself a former National Sale graduate, has nine here headed by a half-brother (Lot 181) to East Cape champion Queen Forever, a half-brother (Lot 254) to G3 Fillies Nursery winner Hot Affair, a half-sister (Lot 303) to brilliant racemare Yoshie, and a filly (Lot 560) out of the Captain Al sired G2 winner Townsend.

Var, whose Varsfontein consigned daughter Goddess Var (subsequent G3 winner Ghaalla) made R5 000 000 at the 2017 National Sale, has two here –Anything Goes (Lot 332) is a half-sister to promising 2yo Green Laser, while Moon’s Up (Lot 126) is a colt out of a 5 time winning half-sister to G3 winner Jet Aglow.

Other attractive lots to be found in this imposing draft is the What A Winter half-brother (Lot 164) to Selangor Cup winning sire Gold Standard, the Judpot full-brother (Lot 420) to high class stakes horses Maleficent and Rocketball,  the Judpot colt (Lot 236) out of a Jet Master stakes winning half-sister to champions Bela-Bela and Rabiya, and the Judpot colt (Lot 246 ) whose stakes winning dam is a full-sister to multiple G1 winner Snowdance.
