Talented four-year-old Eyes Wide Open, a R850 000 purchase from the 2016 KZN Yearling Sale, showed his class when downing a high-class field to win the G2 World Sports Betting 1900 at Greyville on Saturday.
Ironically, Eyes Wide Open defeated another top class graduate of the 2016 KZN Yearling Sale, with Magnificent Seven (a R140 000 from that auction) taking second place in the WSB 1900.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, the Chrigor Stud owned colt powered home the centre of the Greyville track to lift Saturday’s R500 000 by neck, with runner up Magnificent Seven finishing a head clear of third place finisher, and last year’s G1 Vodacom Durban July runner up, Made To Conquer.

Bred by Highlands, Eyes Wide Open confirmed himself a legitimate contender for the 2019 G1 Vodacom Durban July (a race he missed out on last year) with his courageous win on Saturday.

Now a four time graded stakes winner, and a hugely attractive future stud prospect, Eyes Wide Open took his tally of wins to five and his prize money to R1 922 125 with his latest feature race score.

Successful in both the G1 Investec Cape Derby and G1 Premiers Champion Stakes earlier in his career, Eyes Wide Open was sired by Ridgemont Highlands’ late, great sire Dynasty and was produced by the winning Jallad mare Live Your Dreams.

The 2019 KZN Yearling Sale is due to take place this year on July 4th and 5th, and will once again offer buyers the chance to acquire top-class athletes at reasonable prices.
