Brilliant four-year-old filly, and Bloodstock South Africa graduate, Celtic Sea once again showed her class when she ran out a hugely impressive winner of the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes (1200m) at Kenilworth on Friday afternoon.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Sean Tarry trained filly quickened up smartly 200m from home before romping home, under jockey Gavin Lerena, to a two and a half length win.

Her trainer’s only runner at Kenilworth on the day, Celtic Sea took her tally of wins to eight, and her earnings to R2 536 288 with her impressive win on Friday.

Her jockey said after the win, ““She did it the hard way. I heard them coming at the 200m, but she was too good. “

A likely runner in either the G1 Cape Flying Championship or G1 Majorca Stakes on Sun Met day next month, Celtic Sea has been out of the money just four times in her 19 outings, with her previous wins including triumphs in both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint last season.

Celtic Sea, a R325 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale, races for Antony and Angela Beck.

The filly, South Africa’s Champion 3YO Filly for 2018-2019, is a daughter of deceased champion sire Captain Al, and is out of the dual winning Mark Of Esteem mare Ireland.
