Mauritzfontein will once again be offering an excellent draft at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale, which will take place at the Mistico Equestrian Centre on Feb 28th.

The farm’s draft is made up of yearlings by such popular and promising stallions as Futura, Ideal World, Querari, Rafeef and ill-fated champion Soft Falling Rain –and no discerning buyer can afford to overlook this string.

Horse Of The Year Futura has a well bred filly to his name in the form of Wind Sock (Lot 1). This filly, the very first into the ring, is a half-sister to 3 winners including Champion Juvenile Cup winner Kimberley Star (who recently won the Fairview Merchants for a second time) as well as promising filly World Radar, an impressive winner of three of her first four starts.

Soft Falling Rain, whose first crop includes the likes of the aforementioned World Radar, as well as Montreal Mist and Gin Fizz, has two colts in Mauritzfontein’s draft. Dronfield (Lot 80) is a half-brother to four winners including the high-class gallopers Free State and Fear Not, while Edgartown (Lot 104) is out of a Fort Wood mare who is closely related to champions Horse Chestnut and Monyela.

Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos in 2018-2019, is the sire of Rosso Corsa (Lot 125), a colt out of a Sadler’s Wells daughter of champion, and G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner, Necklace (this colt is a half-brother to recent G3 Sea Cottage Stakes third Imperial Ruby), while G1 Computaform Sprint winner Rafeef’s first crop includes Star Of The West (Lot 157) –a colt whose dam is a half-sister to champion Monyela and two other stakes winners.

Larabanga (Lot 180) shares his Mauritzfontein based sire Ideal World with a host of top class gallopers notably Smart Call, Rainbow Bridge, and champion Hermoso Mundo as well as recent graded stakes winners Vistula and Mount Laurel. This colt (closely inbred to legendary sire Danehill) hails from a top-class famiily with his relatives including G1 Epsom Derby runner up Glacial Storm, and German champion Globus.
