STAR PRODUCER THE STANDOUT IN WILGERBOSDRIFTS NATIONAL DRAFT
12 March 2020

Wilgerbosdrift made history at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, when the Piketberg farm’s blue blooded Masaki was knocked down to Shadwell South Africa for R9 000 000 –the highest price ever paid for a thoroughbred yearling at public auction in this country.

The farm is back again, with an exceptional draft at this year’s National Sale, and will no doubt be hoping that history repeats itself in 2020!
Wilgerbosdrift will be offering yearlings by all of Duke Of Marmalade, Flower Alley, Ideal World, Querari, Silvano, Soft Falling Rain, Trippi, and What A Winter at this year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, with many of their yearlings hailing from outstanding families.

A standout on paper is Celestial City (Lot 185), the Silvano full-brother to multiple G1 winning champion Hawwaam, and half-brother to both G1 Sun Met winner Rainbow Bridge and recent G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby victor Golden Ducat. Remarkably, Celestial City’s G3 winning dam Halfway To Heaven’s first three runners are all G1 winners!
A son of South Africa’s reigning champion sire Silvano, Celestial City is a colt packing a stallion’s pedigree!

Silvano, also sire of the aforementioned Masaki, is well represented in Wilgerbosdrift’s draft –Lets Twist Again (Lot 251) is a half-brother to G3 Fillies Mile winner Folk Dance and the G1 placed Capoeira, while Scarlet Ibis (Lot 106) is a colt (and three-parts brother to the very smart Born To Perform) out of a dual winning daughter of July winning champion Dancer’s Daughter.

Short-lived champion Soft Falling Rain has some excellent prospects in this draft –his son Pluvio (Lot 27) is a colt out of the Fort Wood sired G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Athina, while Buck’s Fizz (Lot 134) is a full-brother to the very smart filly Gin Fizz.

Other eye catching Soft Falling Rain yearlings in this draft include the colt (Lot 372) out of G3 Starling Stakes winner Sarasota, the filly (Lot 448) out of Queen Palm Handicap winner Treaj Pots, and the colt (Lot 458) out of the stakes placed Var mare Varuna.

Resident sire, and former Travers Stakes winner, Flower Alley also has some very appealing yearlings on offer –including a half-sister (Lot 179) to recent Aquanaut Handicap winner Chitengo, a colt (Lot 365) out of G2 The Debutante winner Rosier, and a half-sister (Lot 439) to the aforementioned Athina.

Other attractive lots in Wilgerbosdrift’s National Sale draft include the Duke Of Marmalade colt (Lot 351) out of Equus Champion Rat Burana, the What A Winter (Lot 140) half-sister to G3 winners Our Emperor and Platinum Class, and the Ideal World filly (Lot 411) out of a stakes placed Oasis Dream daughter of Oaks winner Front House.
