BSA CHAMPION ROMPS HOME

Champion, and former Bloodstock South Africa graduate,  Celtic Sea made an impressive return to racing on Thursday, when the four-year-old Captain Al filly romped home to an easy win in a pinnacle stakes over 1200m at the Vaal racecourse.

Under Gavin Lerena, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Celtic Sea came from the back of the field in a matter of strides, before mowing down her opponents to win going away by a deceptively easy three and a half lengths.

In the process, the Sean Tarry trained filly took her tally of wins to nine and her earnings to R2 796 288.

South Africas Equus Champion 3YO Filly of 2018-2019, Celtic Sea races for Antony and Angela Beck.

The filly, winner of both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint last season, was a R325 000 buy from  the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

One of 99 stakes winners sired by deceased Cape Guineas winner and multiple champion sire Captain Al, Celtic Sea is out of the twice winning Mark Of Esteem mare Ireland, a half-sister to Brazilian G1 winner La Defense.
