Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, whose former stallions include the brilliant Var, look to be standing another exciting sire prospect in the form of Var’s handsome son Talk Of The Town.

The latter, an impressive winner of three of his five starts, hails from the one of the best families in stud book, with Talk Of The Town’s numerous high-class relatives including legendary Australian sire Redoute’s Choice and champion South African sire Northern Guest.

Avontuur will be bringing three members of Talk Of The Town’s first crop to the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale, with the estate’s Pippa Mickleburgh delighted by what she has seen thus far.

Pippa says of Talk Of The Town colt Sound Of The Sea (Lot 30), “This half-brother to ten time winner Chantyman is a wonderful type with good bone and a super temperament.”

Talk Of The Town is also represented here by Trendsetter (Lot 137), “This speedy Talk Of The Town filly has a really powerful hind quarter and she is a typical Var to me”, and Talking Point (Lot 148). The latter, a three-parts sister to Var’s G1 winning son Normanz, has made a big impression on Pippa, who describes her charge as, “She is a simply stunning filly, and is big and strong legged. I firmly believe she could be on the National Sale.”

This draft also includes Master Of My Fate filly It’s Her Way (Lot 72) “an eye catching, high-quality filly who is from a good active family”, and Var colt Alcaraz (Lot 99). The latter is one of just a few colts left by his sire, with Alcaraz being a three-parts brother to the Var sired G1 Golden Horse Sprint winner Contador.

Avontuur Thoroughbred Estate’s draft for the auction can be found in Block B at Kenilworth racecourse.
