Boland Stud, breeders of numerous equine stars, has enjoyed notable success at the National Sale over the past few years.
In 2023, Boland, as agent, sold a Vercingetorix colt to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for R2 400 000, while last year’s National Sale saw Boland Stud yearlings make up to R1 100 000.
Eugene Freeman will be offering an exceptional draft at the 2025 National Yearling Sale, and it appears that Boland will once again make waves in the National Sale ring.
Boland’s National string is made up of yearlings sired by Malmoos, One World, Rafeef and the mighty Vercingetorix, with the farm’s yearlings including siblings to some top-class performers.
One yearling bound to prove popular is the One World colt (Lot 292) out of the Silvano mare Sommersonne. Not only is this colt bred on the same cross as One World’s outstanding son One Stripe, but he is a half-brother to last season’s G2 World Pool With Gold Circle Debutante/G3 Tabgold Strelitzia Stakes winner Just Reckless, with Sommersonne herself a winning half-sister to G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner Sommerlied. Captain Al’s sensational son One World, arguably the most exciting stallion standing at stud in South Africa, is also represented here by a colt (Lot 155) out of the winning Jallad mare Kiss And Ride. The latter is a half-sister to five black type horses, including exported G1 Cape Guineas winner Kilindini and the Captain Al sired Kiss Me Hardy.
Rafeef has some very exciting two-year-olds this season, including the unbeaten Easy Tiger and Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes winner Glastonbury, and he has three lots on offer here. Rafeef’s trio include a filly (Lot 15) bred on the same cross as G1 winning sires Master Archie and Thunderstruck, and a colt (Lot 76) out of Listed Winter Oaks winner Duchess Of Bourbon.
Boland will also be offering, as agent, a regally bred colt (Lot 191) by Vercingetorix, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2024-2025. A colt with a stallion’s pedigree, he is a half-brother to four winners including G1 Golden Horse Sprint winner Battle Force, and this is the family of group winners CD Europe, Roi De Rome, and Truth Or Dare. Safe to say, Vercingetorix represents a major sire strike for this family!
