Bloodstock South Africa had a wonderful year in 2023, with their graduates landing many of South Africa’s top races, and BSA ended the year on a high note when Bloodstock South Africa purchase Green Laser scored a convincing win in Hong Kong on Friday.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the seven-year-old defied a wide trip when storming home to land Friday’s Tung Wan Shan Handicap by three parts of a length.
Fourth in two of his three starts prior to Friday’s win, Green Laser has now earned $974,350 and is the latest in a long line of Bloodstock South Africa sold thoroughbreds to win in Hong Kong.
The gelding was a bargain buy when knocked down to the Tawny Syndicate for R100 000 at the 2018 National Yearling Sale.
A son of Varsfontein’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, Green Laser showed high-class form in South Africa where he won the G3 Sea Cottage Stakes, and finished runner up, to another son of Gimmethegreenlight Got The Greenlight, in the G1 SA Classic.
The gelding is out of the Parade Leader mare Dance Domain -who also ranks as the dam of erstwhile Equus Champion 2YO Filly Anything Goes.
Bloodstock South Africa would like to wish all its loyal supporters a Happy New Year and all the best wishes for the year going forward. May you buy the horse of your dreams in 2024!
