CHAMPION RELATIVES TO STAR IN HEMEL ‘N AARDE’S AUGUST DRAFT

A standout factor in Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud’s draft for this year’s August Two Year Old Sale is the quality of mare and female lines represented here.

Hammie’s Hooker, Equus Champion Older Filly of 2014-2015, is represented here by a What A Winter filly by the name of Sports Fan (Lot 147). Not only did Hammie’s Hooker win ten races, five of which were graded stakes, but she is a half-sister to Gem King, winner of both the 2022 G3 World Sports Betting Variety Club Mile and 2022 G3 World Sports Betting Legal Eagle Stakes.
Targaryan, a Var half-sister to both G1 Mercury Sprint winner Fly By Night and the dam of 2024 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met winner Double Superlative, has a Rafeef filly (Lot 318) by the name of Happy Champer. The latter is a half-sister to three winners including impressive scorer Avernian Goddess.
Elegantrix (Lot 108) is a Vercingetorix half-sister to four winners including the smart Elegant Ice, and this regally bred filly hails from the same family as breed shaping stallions Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Nureyev- to name but three.
What A Winter, whose numerous high-class performers include the aforementioned Elegant Ice, has three lots in this draft including Hammer Blow (Lot 32). The latter, whose dam is a full-sister to G1 Computaform Sprint winner Pacific Trader, is a full-brother to G3 Pretty Polly Stakes third placegetter Women Of Fame.
Other appealing lots on offer include Hotaru (Lot 64), a Fire Away filly out of a speedy four time winner, and the Pathfork colt (Lot 280) whose dam is a winning half-sister to 2024 G3 Poinsettia Stakes winner Asiye Phambili.
