Cornerstone Stud is set to offer a small but select string at the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
While this draft consists of just three yearlings, each lot in Cornerstone’s consignment is worth more than just a second glance.
Platinum Hill (Lot 19) is a grey colt by Japanese champion Danon Platina, whose first crop is headed by the likes of White Pearl, Oni San, Harajuku and Cape Racing Gold Rush winner Rapidash.
From one of the best families in the stud book, Platinum Hill is a half-brother to three winners, and his third dam Couriette is a full-sister to G1 July Cup winner and breed shaping sire Green Desert. This is also the family of another top-class stallion in the form of Arch, as well as the likes of champions Althea, Covefefe and Vespa.
Dubawi’s G1 winning son and G1 sire Willow Magic is the sire of Urshifu (Lot 209), with this filly out of a three time winning half-sister to Listed Dahlia Plate winner Bob ‘N Weave and Listed Racing Association Stakes winner Memphis Mafia. Urshifu’s granddam won four and further back this is the family of numerous high-class performers in New Zealand.
The death of New Predator appears a major setback for South African breeders with the dual G2 winner’s first crop headed by G1 TAB SA Classic/G2 Jonsson Workwear Dingaans winner Purple Pitcher. The son of New Approach is represented in this string by Thunder Whisperer (Lot 217). The latter is a filly out of a winning Gimmethegreenlight own-sister to this season’s Cape Racing Sales The Ready To Run Stakes winner Tail Of The Comet, and this is the family of high-class, stakes winning fillies Comet Chaser, Fairyinthewoods, Tarn Fairy and Yoshie to name but a few.
