Drakenstein Stud, one of South Africa’s top stud farms and breeders of recent repeat G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark, will be offering a high-class colt at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
Drakenstein’s sole offering is Except Temptation (Lot 11), a colt from the first crop of War Front’s Dixie Stakes winning son Fire Away.
The regally related Except Temptation is from a top-class family, with his dam Looking At Stars a daughter of former Equus Champion, and dual G1 winner Lady Windermere. The latter, in turn, is a Western Winter half-sister to a trio of stakes winners notably G3 Byerley Turk Plate winner Olympic Flag. This is also the family of former South African Horse Of The Year Classic Flag -and fellow Equus Champion Royal Aproval -among many others!
Evergreen Farms, situated in the same valley as Drakenstein Stud, will be offering two yearlings at the 2022 Cape Sale.
Both Evergreen’s lots were sired by Tapit’s very quick son Coup De Grace, a prolific source of winners in South Africa.
First up from Evergreen is the Coup De Grace colt (Lot 65) whose dam Sorceress is a winning half-sister to G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge winner Lazer Star, and this colt’s dam was runner up in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas.
Coup De Grace is also responsible for a filly (Lot 99) out of a G3 placed daughter of Jet Master, and this filly hails from the same female line as star fillies Covenant, Lady Brompton and Promisefrommyheart -as well as Jet Master’s top-class sire son Master Of My Fate.
The Cape Yearling Sale will take place on Sunday, February 27th this year, with the one day auction set to be hosted at Kenilworth racecourse.
