Fresh off a great weekend at Turffontein, Bloodstock South Africa graduates struck again when claiming a pair of feature races at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
BSA graduates Daimyo, Love Is A Rose, Holding Thumbs and Call To Unite ran 1-2-3-4 in Saturday’s Listed Woolavington Stakes, while BSA buy Miss Marguerite downed a smart field to land the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes on the same card.
Progressive four-year-old Daimyo was given a fine, front running ride by Joshwin Solomons to win the Woolavington Stakes over 2500 metres. The Justin Snaith trained four-year-old made the most of a light weight and a good ride to land Saturday’s race convincingly by a length and a quarter. Bred by Erasmus Thoroughbreds in partnership with Syrilla Stud, Daimyo took his tally of wins to three, from 11 starts, with the gelding having banked R368,062 in prize money. The 2024 Woolavington Stakes winner races for Messrs K P Nagendran and R V Norton & Mrs C Nagendran. Daimyo, one of three winners for his sire Vercingetorix at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday, was a R600 000 purchase from the 2022 November Two Year Old Sale. The well bred four-year-old is out of the top-class racemare Juxtapose, whose four career victories included triumphs in both the G1 SA Fillies Classic and G2 SA Oaks. A daughter of Judpot, Juxtapose is a half-sister to Listed East Cape Breeders Stakes winner Pineapplemintgreen and to the dam of East Cape champion Luna Halo.
Miss Marguerite, a bargain R90 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale, picked up the biggest win of her career when she won Saturday’s Listed Laisserfaire Stakes. Under a strong ride from Ashton Arries, the Piet Steyn trained dug down deep to score by a head.Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the Master Of My Fate mare has won five of 30 starts with her latest win taking Miss Marguerite’s earnings to R610,299.Miss Marguerite, who races for the Greenacres Trust and her trainer, is out of the Captain Al mare Lantana Lady. The latter, closely related to Equus Champion Captain’s Lover, is a full-sister to Listed Java Handicap winner Fulcrum.
