Gelykfontein Stud will be bringing five quality fillies to the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale. Schalkie Van Der Walt will be offering youngsters sired by G1 Sun Met runner up Last Winter, G1 winner and G1 sire Red Ray, and champion sprinter Rebel King at this year’s auction.

Western Winter’s son Last Winter has made a pleasing start with his first runners this season and he is represented by two filles here. The well named Winter Spa (Lot 80), closely inbred to multiple champion sire Western Winter, is a filly from the family of legendary champion Horse Chestnut among others, while Way Of The Wolf (Lot 140), whose dam is by Gimmethegreenlight, is from the family of graded stakes winners Masai Warrior and Natural Selection as well as the classy sprinter Surjay.
Mercury Sprint winner Red Ray is another son of Western Winter doubly represented. Sire of the likes of Alula’s Star and Red Saxon, Red Ray is responsible for Red Emerald (Lot 114), a filly out of a G3 placed daughter of Gimmethegrenlight, while Red Ray filly Seven Times Red (Lot 127) sports a full-sister to G1 winners Al Nitak and The Sheik as her granddam.
Like Red Ray, Rebel King was a G1 winning sprinter and that son of National Emblem is represented here by Northern Empress (Lot 236), a filly whose dam is a winning half-sister to smart galloper Ski Champ. This filly also hails from the family of champion Imperial Silver and G1 Computaform Sprint winner Desert Legend.
