The Gelykfontein Stud continues to be a stalwart supporter of the National Yearling Sale, and Schalkie Van Der Walt will be offering another stellar draft at this year’s auction.
Gelykfontein’s National Sale draft is made up of four yearlings sired by proven G1 sire Visionaire, and a colt by the very promising young stallion Erik The Red.
Schalkie, who noted that each of his yearlings scored high points on conformation, is proud of his consignment and he had the following comments to make about his five fabulous yearlings:
Lot 55: Northumberland c Visionaire -Coventina
By the sire of G1 winners Good Traveller and Takingthepeace, this colt hails from the immediate family of triple South African Horse Of The Year Pocket Power, and the latter’s globetrotting Met winning full-sister River Jetez. He is a good sized, lengthy colt with true legs, and he is full of himself!
Lot 79: Visionary Ecstacy f Visionaire -Ecstatic Green
By Visionaire, who was Leading First and Second Season Sire of his year, this filly is out of the Gimmethegreenlight sired G2 The Debutante winner Ecstatic Green, and this is the family of champions Kings Gambit, London News, and Promisefrommyheart among many others. This is a very smart filly, who is well made and very well balanced. She has a good nature about her.
Lot 81: Emerald Visionary c Visionaire -Emerald Tiara
By the same sire as the likes of champion Good Traveller and G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Takingthepeace, this colt is out of a G3 placed Gimmethegreenlight full-sister to Listed Somerset 1200 third Crown Guardian. He is a typical, full bodied sprint type, with strong hindquarters and he is very correct.
Lot 143: Jailhouse Ruler c Erik The Red -Jailhouse Jazz
Captain Al’s son Erik The Red ranks among the Leading First Season Sires this season, and this colt is out of a winning granddaughter of Snitzel from the family of Equus Champion Alboran Sea. Jailhouse Ruler is a tall, lengthy colt. He is very correct and good natured.
Lot 239: Quest Of Valor c Visionaire -Quest D’ore
Sired by a G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner, this colt’s dam is a half-sister to Listed Oaks Trial winner Chariot Of Gold, and his granddam is a stakes winning half-sister to July winner and successful sire Pomodoro. He is a very big, strong colt. He stands over good ground and is correct.
