The Gelykfontein Stud has been offering horses for sale at BSA auctions for decades, with the Karoo farm a regular fixture at many Bloodstock South Africa sales.
Gelykfontein has produced numerous stars of the turf since its inception in 1935, with graduates of Gelykfontein including a Met winner, Guineas winners, as well as both a Horse Of The Year and Broodmare Of The Year.
The farm has been in the Van der Walt family since 1884 when the farm was bought from PC Coetzee by Frans and Chrissie Kruger. At that stage, the family farmed mainly with cattle, sheep and cart horses. In the Late 60’s, Schalkie Van Der Walt & Jannie Van Der Walt joined the farming activities.
The farm recently received a handsome boost when it was announced that G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner Visionaire, sire of champion Good Traveller and fellow G1 winner Takingthepeace, would stand at Gelykfontein in 2022.
Schalkie Van Der Walt wil be bringing a very smart string to the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale, with Gelykfontein’s August draft headed by lots sired by Admiral Kitten, Pomodoro and multiple champion sire Silvano.
The latter, whose progeny have made up to R9 000 000 in the sales ring, is represented here by Silver Jubilee (Lot 118), a full-sister to G2 Betting World Derby winner Silvano’s Jet as well as the stakes placed Jetano, and this filly hails from the same female line as such star fillies as Little Miss Magic, Bilateral and former champion Tara’s Touch.
Other appealing lots on offer here include Eve’s Apple (Lot 74), a Pomodoro filly out of G2 The Debutante runner up Rebel To The Fore, and Tina’s Kitten (Lot 210). The latter is an Admiral Kitten filly who is from the immediate family of triple South African Horse Of The Year Pocket Power and the latter’s Met winning own sister River Jetez.
Gelykfontein’s draft for the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale can be found in Block E at the TBA complex in Germiston.
