The Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Rainbow Bridge, a R300 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale, continues to serve as a wonderful poster boy for Bloodstock South Africa, and the six-year-old star was once again to the fore over the weekend, with Rainbow Bridge scoring a scintillating win in the G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge (1600m) run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
In the process, Rainbow Bridge not only made it back to back wins in the Gold Challenge but also claimed his fifth G1 success overall.
Trained by Eric Sands, the six-year-old once again received a fine ride from the Hong Kong bound Luke Ferraris.
Ferraris brought his mount with a well-timed challenge, which saw Rainbow Bridge post a comfortable long neck score at the expense of progressive three-year-old, and fellow BSA buy, Catch Twentytwo.
Now an 11 time winner from 23 starts, the Mike and Norma Rattray owned gelding, a dual Met winner and leading contender for the upcoming Vodacom Durban July, took his earnings to over R8 000 000 with his classy display on Saturday.
Out of South Africa’s reigning Broodmare Of The Year Halfway To Heaven, Rainbow Bridge was sired by Mauritzfontein’s successful resident stallion Ideal World.
The latter has eight lots on offer at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale, including a three-parts sister (Lot 89) to G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Mount Laurel and full-brother (Lot 163) to G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner Zante.
