GRACE STABLES, CORNERSTONE STUD BRINGING CLASSY LOTS TO KZN SALE

Grace Stables was established by Winnifred Fourie nearly three years ago, with Winnie having decided to go out on her own following the dispersal of the Scott Bros establishment.

Winnie, who had worked for the late Robin Scott for many years having also had a stint at the quarantine facility at Klawervlei, has many years of working in the thoroughbred industry behind her.

She is the first to admit that starting her own business during the COVID19 pandemic has not been easy but has been pleased with her first sales experience, as a vendor herself, behind her having sent horses to last year’s August Two Year Old Sale.

Previously, Winnie had interned in Kentucky for a year before joining famed horsewoman Becky Thomas and working at Sequel Stallions in New York. She also worked at Stonewall Farm, before returning to South Africa.

She is delighted with both fillies Grace Stables are offering at the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale, and says, “Givers Grace (Lot 142) is by Hat Puntano out of Fender Bender. The dam is a own sister to Cape Derby winner Floatyourboat. She takes a lot after her sire. Tall black filly who is very racy with an athletic build.”

Grace Stables are also offering Bubbles On Ice (Lot 79) an Erupt half-sister to the very talented filly Wisteria Walk. Winnie says of her, “She is a end of November born filly so is a bit on the smaller side but also takes after her sire. She is a strong, compact filly who is bred to go distance but her sire has shown can throw sprinting types as well.”

Both fillies can be viewed in Block A at the Suncoast Casino in Durban.

Anthon Hoek’s Cornerstone Stud is another emerging force in South Africa’s thoroughbred industry to be represented at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale.

Involved in racing since the late 1980’s, Anthon also enjoyed plenty of success as a show jumper, and owns the very successful Cornerstone Equestrian Centre.

Cornerstone will be bringing yearlings by Canford Cliffs, New Predator, Potala Palace and Seventh Rock to the 2022 KZN Sale.

Perhaps the pick of their draft is the Canford Cliffs filly (Lot 13) who hails from the same family as current smart galloper Cleaver Greene, while their Potala Palace filly (Lot 55) out of Sheltered is bred on the same cross as her sire’s top-class son Katak.

Cornerstone’s string for the KZN Yearling Sale can be found in Block F at the Suncoast Casino in Durban.
