Bloodstock South Africa buys, Greaterix and Pomodoro’s Jet, both impressed at Turffontein on Saturday.
Rising star three-year-old Greaterix made amends for a surprise defeat in the G2 Betway Dingaans when running out a convincing winner of the G3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes on Saturday. One of three winners on the card for Muzi Yeni, the Mike De Kock trained colt was given a patient ride in Saturday’s R350 000 contest. Unleashed close home, Greaterix showed a fine turn of foot, and he kept going to win a shade cosily by nearly three parts of a length. Bloodstock South Africa sold thoroughbreds filled the first three placings in the Got The Greenlight, with graded stakes winners Fire Attack and Cosmic Speed finishing second and third respectively. Bred by Al Adiyaat, who own Greaterix in partnership with Mike De Kock, Chris Haynes, George Ragunan and Noelene Malherbe, Greaterix was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R800 000 at the 2023 National Yearling Sale. Potentially an exciting stud prospect, Greaterix has won four of six starts and looks unlikely to stop here. He is a son of champion sire-elect Vercingetorix and Jet Master mare Semra. The latter won three times and ran third in the Listed Queen Palm Stakes, with Semra hailing from the same family as champions Empress Club, Eventuail, Elusive Fort and Ecurie among others.
Brett and James Crawford look to have a very smart prospect on their hands in the form of Pomodoro’s Jet. Winner of the World Sports Betting Grand Heritage, the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud bred six-year-old defied a hefty penalty to run out a hugely impressive winner of Saturday’s Listed Wolf Power 1600, winning in the style of a very classy performer. Under Gavin Lerena, the Pomodoro gelding turned the Listed feature into a one-horse race, with Pomodoro’s Jet drawing right away from his rivals to score by three and a half lengths. Owned by Khaya Stables (Pty) Ltd, Pomodoro’s Jet was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R200 000 at the 2020 National 2YO Sale, with his win on Saturday taking the gelding’s earnings to R955 857. The 2025 Wolf Power 1600 hero is out of the placed Captain Al mare Gorgeous Al, a full-sister to Listed Irridescence Stakes winner Leeward.
BSA’s first live auction of 2025 will be the Cape Yearling Sale, due to take place at the SARDA centre on February 23rd.
