The recently established Hopes And Dreams Stud will be offering its first Cape Yearling Sale draft this year. This string is made up of yearlings sired by a host of different stallions including Erik The Red, Soqrat, William Longsword and Willow Magic.
Blue blooded young sire Erik The Red, whose first crop are now yearlings, is the sire of Vino Rioja (Lot 133), a filly whose twice winning dam is a half-sister to the dam of G1 winning filly Temple Grafin.
William Longsword made headlines recently when his son Dyce won the 2024 G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship, and the son of Captain Al (also the sire of Erik The Red) is represented here by a colt (Lot 154) whose numerous top-class relatives include Australian champions Lankan Rupee and Lonhro, with the latter going on to become Champion Sire in Australia.
Yet another exciting sire represented in Hopes And Dreams’ Cape Sale draft is triple G1 winner and Equus Champion Soqrat. The latter is responsible for Anzel (Lot 121), a half-sister to the useful Global Thunder, and this filly’s dam is a four time winning three-parts sister to G2 winner Champagne Haze.
Suzette and Basie Viljoen have steadily developed Hopes And Dreams Stud, with this Wellington farm, formerly known as Arc-En-Ciel Stud, now home to more than 90 mares, including the Viljoen raced champion Captain’s Ransom.
The latter, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2021-2022 and a R225 000 purchase from the 2019 National Yearling, was an exceptional racemare whose 13 career wins included triumphs in all of the 2020 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas, 2021 G1 Majorca Stakes, 2022 G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes, 2022 G1 Schweppes Majorca Stakes, 2022 G1 South African Fillies Sprint and the 2022 G1 Mercury Sprint. In total, Captain’s Ransom earned more than R3.53 million and picked up three Equus Awards during her illustrious career.
