Two of South Africa’s top thoroughbred nurseries, Lammerskraal Stud and Maine Chance Farms, will be represented by classy strings at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale.
Lammerskraal, whose numerous high-class graduates include last season’s Equus Champion Good Traveller, will be bringing five yearlings to the Cape Sale -all of whom were sired by a G1 winning stallion!
Good Traveller’s sire Visionaire (also responsible for G1 winning filly Takingthepeace) has two fillies on offer in Lammerskraal’s draft. Forty Hot (Lot 150), a filly bred on the same cross as Good Traveller, is a half-sister to seven winners including G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes runner up Red Flame, while Paris Lass (Lot 152) is a filly whose five time winning dam is a half-sister to G2 Camellia Stakes winner Chant De Nuit.
La Chanelle (Lot 2) is an Erupt filly out of a full-sister to G2 winner Buran, while Manchester Fighter (15), a colt by the sadly deceased Lancaster Bomber, is a colt whose dam is a full-sister to two stakes winners including G1 sprinter Exelero.
Lammerskraal will also be offering the well related Ice Star (Lot 172), a William Longsword filly whose G3 placed dam is a three-parts sister to former Equus Champion, and G1 Cape Flying Championship winner, Russet Air, and this filly’s granddam is fellow Equus Champion Icy Air.
Maine Chance Farms, whose current roster of stallions include the very promising Erupt as well as the top-class pair of Querari and Vercingetorix, will be offering four fillies at this year’s Cape Sale.
Lip Sync (Lot 9) is a Duke Of Marmalade filly out of a winning Silvano half-sister to G1 Summer Cup winner Liege, and this filly’s granddam is the G1 winning racemare Lyrical Linda.
Querari, whose progeny include the likes of Rio Querari and Querari Falcon, is the sire of Sainte Croix (Lot 52) -a half-sister to last season’s G1 Woolavington 2000 third Scented Mistress, while Samish Art (Lot 53) is a Flower Alley filly whose dam is a half-sister to G1 SA Derby winner Hero’s Honour.
Last but not least in this consignment, is Sugar Glider (Lot70), a filly by Selangor Cup winner Gold Standard out of a winning full-sister to the very smart filly Sylvanite.
The 2022 Cape Yearling Sale is set to take place at Kenilworth racecourse on Sunday, 27th February, and the online catalogue can be viewed at www.bsa.co.za
