The great year enjoyed by Bloodstock South Africa graduates continued at Turffontein on Tuesday night, when BSA buy Anna Capri captured the country’s final graded race of 2021, the G3 Lebelo Sprint, in impressive fashion.
Under Gavin Lerena, the David Nieuwenhuizen trained four-year-old simply blitzed some talented rivals when making all to land Tuesday’s feature (delayed from Monday) by a deceptively easy one length.
The 2021 Lebelo Sprint was another overwhelming triumph for Bloodstock South Africa with BSA graduates Anna Capri, Gallic Princess, Bard Of Avon and Winter Stories filling the first four placings respectively.
Anna Capri, who races for Mr Kirsten, was a R200 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale.
The flashy grey was bred by Riethuiskraal Stud -who also bred Anna Capri’s outstanding relative National Colour. The latter, South Africa’s Joint Horse Of The Year in 2006 and dam of current boom sire Rafeef, is out of Champagne Stakes winner Rainbow Cake, with the latter also dam of Anna Capri’s dual winning dam Zemfira.
Now a five time winner from 16 starts, Anna Capri is the 56th stakes winner for the now retired Var, who is also the sire of Lebelo third place getter Bard Of Avon.
Bloodstock South Africa would like to wish all its patrons and supporters all the best for 2022. May you buy the horse of your dreams!
