MAINE CHANCE BRINGS CHAMPION DRAFT TO NATIONAL SALE

There is little doubt that Princess Calla is one of the finest racemares to grace the South African turf in recent years. Recently exported to the States, and South African Horse Of The Year for 2022-2023, Princess Calla won 12 races and earned more than R5.582 million in stakes during her local campaign. As versatile as she was brilliant, Princess Calla’s 11 graded stakes wins included the 2023 G1 HKJC Champions Cup over 1800m and the 2023 G1 South African Fillies Sprint over 1200m. The daughter of Flower Alley claimed five Grade One wins during her career, with this tally including the 2024 G1 City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes.

Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd, breeders of this wonderful champion, will be offering buyers a chance to buy their own Princess Calla when they bring an imposing draft of quality yearlings to the 2024 National Yearling Sale.

With this consignment including yearlings sired by the likes of Gimmethegreenlight, Querari, Trippi and Maine Chance’s own hugely successful sire Vercingetorix, this draft looks sure to appeal to many buyers.

One lot which looks bound to appeal is Silver Of Sunshine (Lot 336) a colt by reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, and this colt is out of the blue blooded G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Silver Mountain, a Silvano half-sister to Equus Champion Cloth Of Cloud among others.

Silvano’s outstanding son Vercingetorix has some exceptional lots on sale here including Best Of All (Lot 60), a half-brother to this season’s Listed Laisserfaire Stakes winner Baltic Secret,  Close Encounter (Lot 85) a colt out of a winning Galileo half-sister to French Group Three winner Steel Princess, and Prince Of Egypt (Lot 280). The latter is out of a winning Captain Al full-sister to none other than the G2 winning dam of Princess Calla, making this colt a very attractive prospect indeed.

Other smart lots to be found here include Cosmic Realm (Lot 98), a What A Winter colt whose G2 winning dam Cosmic Light is a half-sister to this season’s G2 Cape Merchants winner Cosmic Highway, and Silver Glitter (Lot 335), a Trippi filly out of a winning half-sister to graded stakes winners Horizon and Santa Clara.

This draft can be viewed from Blocks B,C, and D at the TBA Complex in Germiston.
