Mauritzfontein, one of South Africa’s top stud farms, enjoyed another magnificent season in the recently concluded 2021-2022 season.
Breeding in partnership with Wilgerbosdrift, Mauritzfontein led the Leading Breeders’ log for the season just finished, with Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred horses winning 244 races (including 22 black type races) in 2021-2022, and earning more than R26.78 million in stakes.
Among the top performers representing Mauritzfontein last season were G1 World Sports Betting SA Derby winner Aragosta, talented sprinter Smorgasbord, top two-year-old Karagentang, and Listed Michaelmas Handicap winner Donald McDonald, to name but a few.
Maurizfontein will be offering siblings to several equine stars of the 2021-2022 racing season at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale.
Among them, is a Pomodoro half-brother (Lot 4) to last season’s G3 Protea Stakes/Listed Storm Bird Stakes victor Karangetang, an Ideal World half-brother (Lot 84) to 2022 G3 Marshalls World Of Sport Gold Cup runner up Imperial Ruby, and a Danon Platina half-brother (Lot 101) to 2022 Listed Syringa Handicap queen Ululate.
Other stand out lots on offer include Holding Thumbs (Lot 156), a Vercingetorix colt out of Oaks Trial runner up Withbatedbreath, and Fearless Badger (Lot 180), a Rafeef colt from the same female line as last season’s G2 Senor Santa Stakes winner Smorgasbord.
