MAURITZFONTEIN WELL REPRESENTED AT CAPE YEARLING SALE

Leading breeders Mauritzfontein, whose recent graduates include Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding as well as the likes of Aragosta and Marina, will be offering a high-class consignment to this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.

The Kimberley based farm will be bringing a draft made up of yearlings sired by Duke Of Marmalade, Fire Away, Flower Alley, Ideal World, Querari and the much missed Var to the upcoming Cape Sale.

Lady Look Alike (Lot 5) is a filly by Var -whose numerous high-class daughters include champions Anything Goes, Val De Ra and Via Africa. The filly in question is out of a winning half-sister to exported G3 Jubilee Handicap hero Eton Square, and she hails from the same female line as such champions as Kings Gambit, London News, and Promisefrommyheart.

The consistently successful Querari is represented here by Montreal -a half-sister (Lot 12) to the more than useful Skiminac whose dam is a five time winning full-sister to G3 winner Sky Rise, and who is also bred on very similar lines to champions Horse Chestnut and Monyela.

Another from the same family as the great Horse Chestnut is Crimson Cloud (Lot 21), a filly from the first crop of War Front’s talented son Fire Away, while Rainbow Of Roses (Lot 80) is a daughter of Flower Alley, as are current high-class fillies Bold Fortune, Clafoutis and Princess Calla, and this filly is a half-sister to five winners including the talented, stakes winning filly Peep Show.

Peep Show’s highly successful sire Ideal World has two colts on offer in this draft -Galaxy Explorer (Lot 69) is a half-brother to the smart performer Hubble, while Rossore Finale (Lot 118) is a colt from the same family as G1 winners Nania, Red Ray and Rudra, as well as this season’s G2 Cape Merchants winner Vikram.

Two other attractive sorts on sale are Empire Blue (Lot 135), a son of Global View and a four time winning daughter of Ideal World, and Almond Butter (Lot 165). The latter, a colt by deceased champion Duke Of Marmalade, is a half-brother to speedy filly Eskimo Kisses, and his granddam is a full-sister to multiple champion sire Western Winter.
