MAURITZFONTEIN’S CLASSY CAPE SALE DRAFT SET TO SHINE

Talented gelding Cats Pajamas is a horse who appears to have a very bright future ahead of him. The Frank Robinson trained three-year-old recently caught the eye when he won at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, to make it four wins from his last five starts. A tilt at the G2 Tab Gauteng Guineas is on the cards for the classy Cats Pajamas, himself a R600 000 purchase from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

Mauritzfontein will be offering a Danon Platina half-brother (Lot 85) to the 2024 G2@WorldPool Twitter Umkhomazi Stakes winning Cats Pajamas at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale. The colt, named Catfish, is out of the high-class Var mare Sea Cat, who won all of the Listed Breeders Guineas, Listed East Cape Guineas and Listed Lady’s Bracelet. Catfish is himself a direct descendant of the wonderful producer Kittiwake, herself the ancestress of numerous G1 winners including English classic winner Dawn Approach.
Japanese champion Danon Platina is also represented here by Daley Park (Lot 23), a colt from the family of champions Edict Of Nantes and Colonial Girl.
Proven sires Fire Away and Flower Alley each have a single lot in Mauritzfontein’s Cape draft. The beautifully bred Christmas Rose (Lot 18) is a Fire Away filly whose granddam is a half-sister to international G1 winners Lily Of The Valley and Mubtaahij, while Flower Alley filly Colorado Columbine (Lot 96) is out of a winning Invincible Spirit half-sister to multiple group winner Solid Stone. Colorado Columbine’s granddam Landmark was sired by Arch, who ranks as the broodmare sire of the Flower Alley sired Kentucky Derby winning champion I’ll Have Another.

This draft can be viewed in Block C at the SARDA Centre in Constantia.
