Varsfontein Stud, among the leading thoroughbred nurseries in South Africa for the past few decades, will once again be offering a large, quality draft at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
Their string includes lots sired by such popular and proven stallions as Erupt, Fire Away, Futura, Gimmethegreenlight, Ideal World, Lancaster Bomber, Master Of My Fate, One World and Querari, to name but a few.
Few, however, if any yearling on this year’s Cape Sale offers a more current pedigree than does the Varsfontein Stud consigned Gimmesmoreicream (Lot 32), a filly by their own champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight.
Already a filly with plenty of paddock value, Gimmesmoreicecream is a half-sister to three high-class performers including Salvator Mundi. The latter provided his half-sister with a notable boost when he claimed the recent G2 New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers to take his earnings to over R650 000.
Salvator Mundi is the second graded stakes winners produced by his dam, the Captain Al sired Listed Syringa Handicap winner Secret Obsession.
The latter, also responsible for G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas runner up Silver Thursday, had previous supplied classy G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes winner Bunker Hunt, with Secret Obsession currently the dam of four winners from just five runners.
Other appealing prospects to be found in the Varsfontein Stud string include One And All (Lot 76), a One World three-parts brother to Listed Swallow Stakes winner All At Once, Whistling Strait (Lot 98), the Lancaster Bomber filly from the immediate family of champion fillies Cherry On The Top and Summer Pudding, and Ekistical (Lot 144). The latter is a colt bred on very similar lines to the Gimmethegreenlight sired G2 Colorado King Stakes winner Second Base and hails from the family of the Varsfontein bred Cape Guineas winner Kilindini.
This draft can be viewed from Block B at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth racecourse.
