POUND BLOODSTOCK SWOOP AT NOVEMBER SALE

Prices and statistics remained positive at Sunday’s November Two Year Old Sale, the final live Bloodstock South Africa auction of 2022.

Sunday’s sale saw a regally bred Gimmethegreenlight filly (Lot 172) top the day’s proceedings, with the filly knocked down to Pound Bloodstock’s Sterling Miller for R1 200 000.

Consigned to the sale by Sandown Stud, on behalf of Shadwell SA, Sunday’s top priced lot lacks nothing in terms of pedigree.

Not only is the filly a daughter of former champion South African sire Gimmethegreenlight, she is out of G3 Fillies Mile heroine Ghaalla, herself the top lot sold when knocked down for R5 000 000 at the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

Ghaalla, herself a half-sister to G3 Starling Stakes queen Due Diligence, hails from a family which has already done well with Gimmethegreenlight, with a similar cross producing the stakes winners Favorita and Hack Green.

Riverton Stud consigned the top colt sold at the 2022 November Two Year Old Sale, with their Vercingetorix half-brother (Lot 160) to graded stakes winners Cousin Liz and Gimme One Night sold to Lynton Ryan for R650 000.

Not surprisingly, Vercingetorix, whose numerous high-class progeny include champion and recent G2 Cape Punters Cup victor Cousin Casey, proved the star stallion at Sunday’s sale. The champion son of Silvano ended proceedings as the Leading Sire by Aggregate at the November Two Year Old Sale, where Vercingetorix had 12 lots on offer all sell for a gross total of R4.095 million.

Mauritzfontein, whose two-year-olds fetched up to R500 000 on Sunday, topped the Vendors table, with Mauritzfontein selling 11 lots for an aggregate of R3.28 million, while JASM Solutions were the Leading Buyers at this year’s November Sale, purchasing eight two-year-olds for a total of R2.635 million.
