RIVERTON, SOUTHFORD OFFER PEARLS IN KZN

Riverton Stud has a wonderful record at the KZN Yearling Sale. In past years, the Robertson based farm has sold a host of equine celebrities at the KZN auction, with Riverton’s numerous high-class KZN alumni including G1 Thekwini Stakes/G1 Garden Province Stakes queen Same Jurisdiction, G1 Mercury Sprint hero Pearl Of Asia and G3 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Al Mariachi.

Duncan Barry will be bringing four colts to this year’s KZN Yearling Sale, with the Riverton quartet consisting of yearlings sired by Erupt, One World, Pomodoro and the outstanding Vercingetorix.

The latter is represented here by a half-brother (Lot 25) to the aforementioned equine millionaire Al Mariachi, of whom Duncan says, “He is well balanced and correct, who is a good walker. Just a very nice colt.”
Duncan is also high on his Erupt colt (Lot 17) out of the stakes placed Rozelana. Described by his breeder as an “exceptional colt, he is well balanced and medium sized”, this colt hails from the family of such luminaries as dual G1 winner, and KZN graduate, Eyes Wide Open and his dam’s very close Met winning relative Alastor.

Met winning champion One World is represented in this draft by a “big, strong, powerful well built colt”, with the colt (Lot 117) in question hailing from the immediate family of this season’s brilliant G2 WSB SA Nursery winner Lucky Lad, among many others.

Riverton Stud bred the Pomodoro sired R5 million plus earner Cirillo, and they will be offering a “good walking, racy and well balanced” Pomodoro colt (Lot 10) at the 2023 KZN Yearling Sale.
This draft can be found in Block D at the Suncoast Casino in Durban.

David Southey’s Southford Stud has a reputation for producing tough and affordable horses, who pay their way season after season. David will be bringing four yearlings to this year’s KZN Sale, with his string made up of two fillies and a colt sired by resident stallion Admiral Kitten, as well as a colt sired by South African Triple Crown hero, and former KZN Yearling Sale offering, Louis The King.

Captain’s Dream (Lot 87) is an Admiral Kitten filly out of a mare who won six and ran third in the G3 Poinsettia Stakes, while fellow Admiral Kitten filly Delta Seven (Lot168) is out of a half-sister to dual G1 winner Forest Path, who was sired by Admiral Kitten’s own relative Fort Wood.

First Lord, who shares his sire Louis The King with the smart galloper Montien, is a half-brother (Lot52) to the six time winner The Second Wave, while Admiral Kitten colt James Fitzjames (Lot 138), the only colt on sale by his sire, is a half-brother to two winners including Zimbabwe Guineas runner up Super Good.
