Sandown Stud enjoyed some tremendous results at this year’s National Yearling Sale. Yearlings consigned by Sandown made up to R1 200 000 at the 2023 National Sale, with Sandown ending the auction having consigned 13 yearlings to fetch almost R6 million in aggregate.
The farm’s resident sire Soqrat added further to Sandown’s good results at the National Sale, with that former Equus Champion’s first yearlings averaging just under R500 000 at the 2023 National Yearling Sale.
Sandown’s James Armitage will be hoping to replicate that success when he brings two-year-olds sired by the likes of Buffalo Bill Cody, Danon Platina, Duke Of Marmalade, Pathfork, Querari and the brilliant Soqrat to the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
Champion, and triple G1 winner, Soqrat has two members of his eagerly awaited first-crop in this draft. Falcon Hill (Lot 21), a filly from the family of G1 winners Nania, Red Ray and Set Afire as well as the very promising Red Bomber, is a half-sister to Listed East Cape Nursery winner Vision Of Wonder, while Var mare Varachino, a twice winning daughter of G2 winner Mochachino, has a Soqrat colt (85) on sale. The latter colt is offered on behalf of Shadwell SA (Pty) Ltd.
Fellow Sandown Stud resident Pathfork has had a wonderful season in 2022-2023 and the sire of G1 winners Mighty High and Pearl Of Asia is represented here by Sovereign Command (Lot 81), a colt who hails from the same family as G1 winners Harry Hotspur, Kilindini, Kournikova and champion Kiss Of Peace to name but a few.
Other appealing lots on offer include Artic Silver (Lot 46), a Querari filly from the family of this season’s star two-year-old colt Lucky Lad, and Master Of Mystery (Lot 167). The latter is a colt by sire sensation Danon Platina -whose yearlings averaged an impressive R479 524 at the National Sale earlier this year, where Danon Platina sired yearlings made up to R1 450 000.
The aforementioned draft can be found in Block F at the TBA complex in Germiston.
