SMASHING START FOR AUGUST TWO YEAR OLD SALE!

The 2022 August Two Year Old Sale got off to a tremendous start when it got underway at the TBA complex in Germiston on Friday.

Friday’s opening day of trading saw 113 two-year-olds sell for an aggregate of R24.955 million, with the average price on Friday standing firm at R220 841, and the median for the opening session fixed at R130 000.

Fireworks took place in the TBA complex on Friday when the Wilgerbosdrift consigned colt Yes We Can (Lot 91) strode into the sales ring. A colt by Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, the regally bred two-year-old caught the eye of many discerning buyers but was eventually knocked down to Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe for R3 800 000 to top Friday’s day of trading.

Yes We Can is out of the Kahal mare Sarasota, winner of four races including the G3 Starling Stakes and dam of two winners including the stakes placed Hope Is Power. Friday’s top priced two-year-old hails from a high-class family, with Yes We Can’s notable relatives headed by former Equus Champion Festive Occasion, the dam of G1 Woolavington 2000 queen Do You Remember.

Millstream Farm enjoyed a notable day on Friday when selling the top two priced fillies in the session.

Not only was the Millstream consigned Danon Platina filly (Lot144) out of Untoward sold to Suzette Viljoen for R720 000, Millstream’s Vercingetorix half-sister (Lot 33) to Equus Champion Lady In Black and G2 winner Nexus was knocked down for R650 000 when sold to Bushfellows.

With a strong middle market, there is an air of confidence and hope heading into Saturday’s sale!
