Long-time vendors, Sorrento Stud, will be represented by a large and imposing draft at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
Sorrento will be offering a draft which is sure to appeal to every buyer, with their consignment including yearlings by all of Captain Of All, Futura, Oratorio, Rafeef, Twice Over and Vercingetorix, as well as their own promising resident sire, and former South African Triple Crown winner Louis The King.
The latter has six lots in this draft, including a colt (Lot 42) out of a full-sister to millionaire Miss Katalin, a filly (Lot 71) whose dam is a winning own sister to Settlers Trophy hero Red Peril, a half-sister (Lot 84) to Jockey Club Stakes winner Bursary, and a colt (Lot 95) whose dam is a winning Var half-sister to G1 Gold Challenge victor King Of Pain.
Champion sprinter Captain Of All, whose progeny include recent Guineas runner up Linebacker, has two lots on offer. His pair are a colt (Lot 80) out of a winning half-sister to the very smart Vous Et Var, and a full-sister (Lot 113) to Devon Air Stakes winner What You Are.
The consistently successful Oratorio, whose top local performers include multiple G1 winner Van Halen, is another stallion doubly represented in Sorrento’s draft. Camerata (Lot 25), an own sister to a multiple winner, is out of a three time winning own sister to G3 Acacia Handicap winner Off The Mark, while Oratorio is also sire of a filly (Lot 100), bred on the same cross as Van Halen, whose dam is a winning own sister to G3 Graham Beck Stakes runner up Lightning Lecture.
Rafino (Lot 53) is a regally bred son of red hot young sire, and G1 winning sprinter, Rafeef, and Silvano’s G2 winning daughter Mochachino, while Horse Of The Year Futura’s only lot on offer is the filly (Lot 162) out of Jockey Club Stakes victress Bursary.
Other appealing lots in Sorrento’s draft include the Twice Over colt (Lot 19) whose dam is a winning daughter of Equus Champion Donatella, and the Vercingetorix filly (Lot 149) out of a four time winning daughter of high-class sire Kahal.
