Sorrento Stud will be bringing a smart looking draft to this year’s Cape Yearling Sale, set to take place at Kenilworth racecourse on February 27th.
The near Paarl based farm will be offering lots by a range of sires namely Captain Of All, Oratorio, Potala Palace and Willliam Longsword.
Commander Of All (Lot 36), a colt who shares his sire Captain Of All with recent Met third place-getter Linebacker, is out of a winning full-sister to game, front running Settlers Trophy winner Red Peril, and half-sister to Tibouchina Stakes queen Red Dor.
Triple G1 winner, and consistently successful sire, Oratorio has two lots in this draft. Shine In Memphis (Lot 8) is a filly bred on very similar lines to the Oratorio sired G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Cue The Music, while Ozark (Lot 68) is a colt out of a winning half-sister to G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge winner King Of Pain.
Other attractive lots on offer include Red Palace (Lot 169), a Potala Palace filly out of the stakes placed In Limine, and Annewithan E (Lot 57). The latter, a filly by the very promising William Longsword, is out of a twice winning own sister to the dam of current smart three-year-old Bard Of Avon and half-sister to the G3 winning dam of G2 Camellia Stakes winner Schippers.
Sorrento will also be offering four yearlings on behalf of legendary golfer Gary Player, with this quartet made up of lots sired by all of Flower Alley, Flying The Flag, Lancaster Bomber and Pomodoro.
Seven Suns, whose relatives include champions Basic Instinct, Disco Queen and French Navy to name but a few, has a colt (Lot 55) by Galileo horse Flying The Flag, while Bavaria, a half-sister to Triple Crown winner Abashiri and three-parts sister to Horse Of The Year Yard-Arm, has a filly (Lot 111) from the first crop of G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Lancaster Bomber on sale.
Flower Alley, whose current flagbearers include the likes of Bold Fortune, Clafoutis, and Firealley, is represented here by a colt (Lot 175) whose dam is closely related to G3 winner Zen Arcade, while the only yearling in this draft by proven sire, and former July winner, Pomodoro, is the colt (Lot 176) from the famed Soho Secret family.
