Bloodstock South Africa sold thoroughbreds have enjoyed an outstanding run of success this season, and their great run continued at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did BSA buy Eight On Eighteen win Saturday’s G1 SplashOut Cape Derby, but Bloodstock South Africa purchases Sail The Seas and Garrix finished second and third in the R1 500 000 feature.
A game winner of the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, the Justin Snaith trained Eight On Eighteen was all the rage to win the Cape Derby.
He eventually jumped as 56-100 tote favourite, and duly lived up to expectations.
Under a typically cool ride by Richard Fourie, the Lancaster Bomber colt cruised into the lead 200m from home and kept going to score a shade cosily by a length and a half.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Eight On Eighteen races for Nic Jonsson and Johan Rupert. His Derby triumph took Eight On Eighteen’s tally of wins to four from eight starts, with the three-year-old having earned R4 700 212.
The star colt was a R700 000 purchase from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.
Eight On Eighteen, a close relative of the Lancaster Bomber sired G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner Snow Pilot, is out of the Captain Al mare Sempre Libre. The latter is a full-sister to G2 KZN Guineas winner Secret Captain and half-sister to champions Bela-Bela and Rabiya.
Safe to say, Eight On Eighteen looks to have considerable potential as a stallion!
