Fresh off a remarkable run of success at the recent World Sports Betting Cape Town Met raceday, Bloodstock South Africa enjoyed further success at Turffontein on Saturday.
BSA buys Parisian Walkway, Greaterix, Aristotle, and Legend Of Arthur filled the first four placings in Saturday’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas (1600m), the first leg of the South African Triple Crown.
Trainer Alec Laird unfortunately had to scratch his charge Fire Attack from Saturday’s R1 000 000, but Fire Attack’s stablemate Parisian Walkway provided the stable with a boost when he won the Gauteng Guineas. Under a front running ride from Diego De Gouveia (who described his mount as a “fantastic individual” in the post-race interview), the gelded Parisian Walkway put up a courageous display in the Guineas on Saturday.
Appearing beaten by the favourite Greaterix, Parisian Walkway fought back gamely to win by nearly half a length. The lightly raced three-year-old has won twice from seven starts, with Saturday’s victory pushing Parisian Walkway’s earnings to R752,750.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein (who enjoyed a famous Guineas double on Saturday), the 2025 G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas winner races for Messrs Basel, Clark and Volschenk.
Parisian Walkway, a R450 000 buy from the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale, is the 32nd stakes winner for Mauritzfontein’s successful stallion Ideal World.
The gelding is out of the twice winning Mastercraftsman mare Boutique, with Parisian Walkway a direct descendant of Overture, the dam of former top-class South African sire Preamble II.
